Overview
The Lost Files is a series of album covers that I created for the popular band The Original Lakeside. Their previous band was the popular 80’s funk band Lakeside, but rebranded to the Original Lakeside for their current music projects. Their Drummer Fred Alexander came to me with the idea of creating modern designs for 3 of their new music singles. He specifically wanted the designs to feature a vault with music coming out of it, to signify that the music was the treasure. He also wanted to mix their band’s pirate theme, and their logo included somewhere in the design.
Solution
I decided to incorporate the sword they use in some of their promotional designs to help allude to their Pirate theme and make the vault seem as though it’s filled with their pirate treasure. Since the client wanted some form of music symbolism as the treasure, I used different physical music formats on which they released their albums throughout their career. I decided to make these objects out of gold to further enunciate the Pirate theme, and the musical hits that helped establish their fame. I decided to use different color palettes for each single that was part of their Lost Files series so that users could differentiate each one.
Research
Industrial and Modern
The client specified that they wanted the vault in a similar style to Fort Knox, the United States Bullion Depository. I did a lot of research looking at Fort Knox pictures, and industrial vaults as references, to help me design the style of the vault. I also looked at multiple album covers they released before their rebrand, and made sure to create a design that was modern and stylistically different from their old album covers per the client’s request. I also looked through promotional images, and their branding, so I could incorporate the swords they use into the design.
